A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
Young players come and go, but we appear to be in danger of losing a lot of our best young talent at the moment.
Yesterday there was a story about our striker Veron Parkes rejecting a new deal with us.
A similar story with striker Sean Adarkwa
Daniel Chesters' scholarship finishes at the end of next month and is said to be considering his long term future at the club, with Premier league clubs sniffing around him.
...and today this story appears about Benicio Baker-Boaitey, who is reputed to be heading for superstardom.

Sport Witness

West Ham ‘jewel’ is on Bayern and Barca’s radar – Kluivert ‘big fan’ of Hammers youngster

West Ham United youngster Benicio Baker-Boaitey ‘causes sensation’ in England and it has resulted in him ending up on the radar of top European clubs.

According to Sport1, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are looking at the 16-year-old.

The left-winger has made three appearances for the Hammers’ U18 side, with two of them coming in this calendar year.

He is already ‘associated’ with big clubs, including the champions of Germany and Spain and the teenager’s playing style is compared to that of Juventus’ Douglas Costa.

It’s claimed Barcelona academy director Patrick Kluivert is a ‘big fan’ of the England U16 international and the former Newcastle United man is probably working on bringing Baker-Boaitey to the club.

The report adds the youngster would cost (training allowance) around €250,000.

Meanwhile, the Bavarian club’s academy manager Jochen Sauer recently admitted his side will only bring in youngsters whose quality is ‘significantly higher’ than the ones already in their youth system. Baker-Boaitey would fit the bill.

There’s a possibility the English club’s ‘jewel’ would be more in the spotlight once competitive fixtures at the academy level resume following the Covid-19 crisis.

West Ham want to offer him a contract once he turns 17 next January, but Baker-Boaitey has informed the Premier League side about his decision to change clubs. This could come as an advantage for Bayern ad Barca.

Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
I posted this a while ago on another thread but did not get any replies

I can't think of any of our youngsters that have left us that have made an impact elsewhere in the Premier League.

Much like I don't recall many we have "stolen" from another club that have made a massive impact for us (other than Defoe)

Is there any ?

I feel most youngsters feel they have made it at 19 and give up trying

Buy some season tickets

Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
Or

Marquee signings sell season tickets and merchandise

There is no money for marquee signings and we will struggle to off load what we have in the squad

Link some kids to major clubs in the press and then tie them down to pro contracts and get them some game time and suddenly we are playing players good enough for Barcelona - but some season tickets.

Yeah, I admit I am working on the assumption that the contract offer was reasonable and the agent is a cunt.

One does tend to forget what the Dildos are like.

RB isn’t a position we are currently lacking in. Ok Zab is gone. But we are supposed to have an agreement with the Argentinian from River. And hopefully Fredericks will be back. So is it likely the guy would be able to get ahead of them two.?

*Word on street is the contract West Ham offered is them taking the piss and not reflective of the performances he has shown or his potential ability*

But with the club strapped for cash (apprantly) and we've had a young lad come in play against Liverpool twice and look superb both times......in a position which we need to strengthen and losing Zabelata........surely makes sense to keep him?

Id put my money on Sullivan doing it on the cheap taking the piss as per usual court rather than Ngakia doing a Reece Oxford.

Sven Roeder 1:31 Fri May 22
Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
He got a new contract fairly quickly
He is now our best player as you say .... if he is staying I'd make him captain next season and pay him accordingly
Noble to stay as club captain and be a squad player

Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
Ngakia had a couple of decent-enough games when expectations were rock-bottom. However, it definitely cannot be said he is the solid, finished article in a key position so if he wants out I really don’t see the point of getting into a tizzy about it. Ta ra - maybe you’ll learn how to take a throw-in at your new club, son.

Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
Well, relatively speaking Rice on 40k he hasn’t been looked after. He’s our best player.

Well. He’s come in and proven himself. Ball is in the ownership court.

Sven Roeder 1:01 Fri May 22
Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
Which is his job
Hard to comment unless you see the numbers but assume he is on something like Declan Rice was on when he came into the first team which was a grand or two a week if that.
Rice should be the example for him
Prove yourself and the money will look after itself

Mr Kenzo 12:57 Fri May 22
Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
Of course his agent could just be using this stunt as leverage to get a better contract

lufbra iron 12:57 Fri May 22
Re: A problem hanging on to our best yougsters?
Rossal - I hate our board, but how do you know what his demands are and what he's been offered? He could be a greedy little cunt like Reece Oxford was. look what happened to him... the 'next Rio Ferdinand'

Most championship and EFL clubs will be fucked after this pandemic. Wouldn't be good business sense for them to throw a big contract at a relatively unproven right back.

Like i say, i dont know the detail, and neither does anyone on here, but i dont like a little cunt with a handful of games holding the club to ransom. Fuck him
